After spending time with Rohingya refugees, Priyanka Chopra meets Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina

Actor and UNICEF Global Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra has been spending time with Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. With her visit and social media posts, she is trying to draw the attention of the people around the world about the massive crisis. The actress has been in Bangladesh for days and has spent ample amount of time with them learning about their problems. After her visit, Priyanka Chopra met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka.

During her meeting with the Prime Minister, Priyanka Chopra lauded Bangladesh for giving shelter to over one million Rohingya refugees. Priyanka, who spent three days with the refugees, shared her experience at the Cox Bazaar and how it has been interaction with the kids who are trying to overcome the trauma of violence.

Priyanka Chopra, who has been working for the welfare of the children for the longest time, has been sharing many moments with the refugee kids. In one of her social media posts shared on Thursday, she wrote, “I was quite literally knocked off my feet…a spontaneous, unfiltered moment with these amazing kids, who I spent a couple of hours with laughing and learning. It was as if for those few hours we all forgot where we were, and let ourselves be kids again (me included). One of the last stops on my field visit was at a @unicef Learning Center in the Balukhali Camp. Here, children are given a basic education of math, English, and Burmese through a colorful and engaging curriculum of song, drama, role playing. The age of the children in this classroom ranges between 7-10 years old, and for many of these kids this is their first school experience. There are over 400,000 children at these camps, but currently only 1/3 have access to education because of the lack of space and teachers.

Given everything these kids have been through, their was no shortage of excitement or hope when I asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grow up. Whether it be a journalist, doctor, school teacher, or in the military, receiving an education means they’re getting a chance to create the future they aspire for themselves.

The children are also taught basic hygiene, which is very important in a camp such as this, because of wide spread diseases like cholera and watery diarrhoea. Basics, like how to properly wash your hands, has actually helped to significantly reduce illnesses, and what’s amazing is that these kids go home and teach their parents and siblings the good health practices they’ve learned.

Its initiatives like this that are setting these kids up for a brighter future. As I sit amongst them, singing along, the lyrics have more meaning than ever… “deep in my heart, I still believe, we shall overcome one day! .” I know they will.

On the work front, Priyanka Chopra already has two Hollywood projects- A Kid Like Jake and Isn’t It Romantic. She will be soon returning to India to kickstart Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat alongside Salman Khan and Disha Patani.

This is little Shohida (8 months old), who stole my heart with her infectious smile. It’s a poignant reminder of the dichotomy of life…here she was getting all the help she needed, when just a few months before, her mother, Alada (who was only 19 years old at the time) walked for 15 days, while 6 months pregnant with her ,to get across the border. It shows us that there is hope left in this world. When you’re dealing with a mass exodus of thousands of people, who have been displaced from their homes and are desperate for refuge, the need for proper health and nutrition takes center stage…especially for women and children. On the various Unicef Field Visits I have taken, I am always surprised by the simple yet effective solutions that @unicef and their partners develop to deal with the most dire and pressing situations and issues. This is something I experienced again today during my visit to the Nutrition Centre at the Jamtoli camp in Cox’s Bazar. More than 60,000 babies have been born in the camps over the past 8 months, so this center is an essential resource for new mothers to learn about proper feeding and nutrition. It all begins with the MUAC, a process where the child’s middle upper arm is measured to ascertain their nutrition level. From there, aids create a program for the child and a nutrient rich, ready-to-eat peanut paste is portioned out for each child based on the severity of malnutrition. At the Center mother’s are also taught basic hygiene and good health practices when they are in their homes. The world needs to care. We need to care. As I walk into the Women Friendly Space at the Jamtoli Camp, I am instantly struck by a certain calmness. These camps are loud & crowded, actually overcrowded, and so to find a quiet oasis, in this case a small hut with a tarp roof and thatched bamboo walls, is surprising. But for the girls in this camp, this is what they call their “house of peace.” It’s a place they can come and just be. A place to interact with friends, seek counselling, learn about hygiene, or learn life skills like art and music. There are approx 50 Women Friendly Spaces in the camps, just like this one, that on any given day see 50-70 Rohingya girls seeking these safe havens. The centers open at 9am, but there is seldom a day when the women aren’t lined up early, waiting for the doors to open. It is here that I met three 18 year old young women, in particular, who’s stories really shook me – their names have been omitted to protect their identities. They recounted lives of pain and suffering so horrifying…it’s difficult to fathom. One scarred with memories of houses in her village being burned – she and her parents traveled for two days to get here, passing hundreds of decapitated and dismembered bodies along the way. Another shared stories of young girls being pulled from their homes to be raped and tortured. They even tried to kill her and cut her with a knife, but she fought back. How did you manage to be so brave, I asked her…she replied, “If you’re born you will die, so I’m not scared of dying today.” In what world is it normal for an 18 year old girl to have this perspective on life?! The third young woman traveled for nearly two weeks on foot through the forest, where her youngest brother died along the way. There was lots of rape and torture back home she told me, and some women’s breasts were even cut off. While their lives are safer now, they are all still struggling. They know that with an education they can get a job and create better lives for their family, like buying protein for their meals, and clean drinking water. It’s literally as basic as that. Soft Matter Trailer Wants to Be Shape of Water Meets Get Out

Love The Shape of Water? Absolutely adore Get Out? Well, then, someone has made a movie just for you. And it's really short, so if it sucks, you don't have to worry about wasting much of your time. That's right, we have the first trailer for Soft Matter, and, well, you can check out the trailer for yourself.

If you've seen Guillermo Del Toro's The Shape of Water, which walked away with Best Picture at this year's Oscars, then you'll notice more than a passing resemblance to that monster drama just from the Soft Matter poster alone. It's easy to confuse the two. And it doesn't help that Wild Eye releasing are pushing that point home in their promotional materials for the movie.

"The Shape of Water meets Get Out in the unique Sci-fi Horror Soft Matter, premiering on VOD 5/22 from Wild Eye Releasing."

RONN!E from SciFiMonkeys.com goes one step further in claiming that, "It's like Shape of Water swimming in electrified horror." Jim Hickcox's feature debut tells of two graffiti artists that break into an abandoned, reportedly haunted research facility in hopes of creating an art installation, but stumble upon a team of demented researchers who are in the process of resurrecting an ancient sea creature, who they now must fight in order to not become their next experiment.

Ruby Lee Dove II, Hal Schneider, and Mary Anzalone star in a "fiercely original and incredibly entertaining masterpiece" (A Word of Dreams). Jim Hickcox has made a name for himself with several short films such as Slow Creep, The Rise of Kenji Gojira and Divine Urine. He got his start in the Camera and Electrical Department, and has worked on over 30 projects over the past couple years, honing his craft.

Leading lady Ruby Lee Dove II is also more known for her work in short films, with Soft Matter one of her biggest projects to date. Hal Schneider has a similar resume. As does Mary Anzalone, so this could really be a big break out for any and all of these actors. The thriller really seems to be banking on its premise and the fact that maybe you liked The Shape of Water enough to check this out.

The first trailer and poster for Soft Matter arrive direct from Wild Eye releasing. You can check out what it's all about and wonder if this is something you really want to devote your time too. It's maybe good for a laugh or a scare.

Jurassic Games Trailer Is Jurassic Park Meets Hunger Games on Steroids

Have you ever wondered privately what it might be like if the Jurassic Park franchise was thrown in a blender with The Hunger Games, but given a very small budget in order to make it happen? Probably not, but The Jurassic Games trailer is here to show you what that looks like. As it so happens, it looks exactly how you might expect it to look and, depending on your love for low-budget B-movie action, that is either going to be a great or terrible thing.

This trailer, in a not at all surprising bit of convenient timing, just so happened to drop on the same day that the final trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom arrived. Coincidence? Likely not. And if you're one of the people who just can't find a reason to get excited about a fifth Jurassic Park movie, this may serve as a schlocky substitute. The Jurassic Games looks like it could be the guilty pleasure streaming movie of the year, assuming that the movie winds up on a major streaming service at some point. One can only hope, because does anyone really want to actually put up folding money for something like this?

The movie takes place in a not-too-distant future that sees ten death row inmates compete in a virtual reality game show called, you guessed it, The Jurassic Games. They are forced to fight dinosaurs as well as each other in order to survive, because dying in the game means death in real life. Our protagonist is Anthony Tucker, a man who has been wrongfully convicted of murdering his wife. He can be reunited with his children if he wins, but unfortunately for him, that's easier said than done. The game's nefarious host adds increasingly difficult challenges for the contestants and, just like The Hunger Games, there can only be one winner.

If anyone remembers the Gerard Butler movie Gamer, there are definitely elements of that thrown into the mix for good measure here as well. The Jurassic Games comes from writer/director Ryan Bellgardt, the man responsible for other such creations as Gremlin (not Gremlins) and Army of Frankensteins. So, for better or for worse, this seems to be right in his wheelhouse. The cast for the movie includes Adam Hampton (The Harvesters), Ryan Merriman (Final Destination 3) and Perrey Reeves (Old School).

If you're looking to get your hands on the movie, Jurassic Games arrives on VOD platforms this summer on June 12. That just so happens to be a little more than a week ahead of the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on June 22. If you're feeling like you need a hard copy of the movie for your collection, the DVD arrives on July 3. Sorry for those who were hoping to see this in Blu-ray quality.
